Rekeying & lock changes
New apartment, a tenant who left, or keys that went missing. Rekeying makes the old keys stop working, and in most cases you keep the locks you already have.
Rekey or replace
A rekey changes the inside of the cylinder so a new key works and old ones do not. It costs less than a new lock and takes less time. We replace instead when the lock is worn, loose or broken, or when you want a higher security level.
One key or many
You can have all your doors on a single key, or keep each door separate with one owner key that opens them all. Landlords of small buildings usually want the second kind, so that each tenant has their own key. We chart what we set up so the next change is easy.
When to do it
The best time is right after you take possession, before you have unpacked, or the day a tenant moves out. A few minutes with a locksmith removes the unknown number of keys out there. We bring pins and blanks for the common brands, so it is usually done in one visit.
- Rekey after a move, a sale or tenant turnover
- Several doors on one key, or separate keys with an owner key
- Deadbolt and knob replacement
- New keys cut on site
- Restricted-key options for shared doors
- Clear price on site before any work

Common questions
How long does a rekey take?
Usually a short visit per door. A house or apartment with several locks takes a bit longer.
Can you rekey a lock if I have no key?
Yes. We open it, then rekey it on the same visit.
Do I need to change the locks, or is a rekey enough?
A rekey is enough when the locks are in good shape. If one is worn or damaged, we replace that one.
